MEET OUR DOCTORS

Our experienced doctors are all certified dentist anesthesiologists and provide anesthetic care to a wide array of dental patients.

DR. MATTHEW D. ARNALL

Dr. Matthew Arnall was raised in Flagstaff, Arizona. His wife and four children are the best part of his life! He spent way too many years on his education, but he enjoyed the journey and wouldn’t change a thing (he only says that to make himself feel better). He attended Northern Arizona University where he studied microbiology (yawn), then Creighton University for dental school (his wife made him take ballroom dancing lessons in the middle of it… which saved his marriage… seriously). Several years into private practice, he and his wife announced that the family would be moving to New York City for him to attend a residency in anesthesiology at New York University (death stares from his teenage daughters). In the end, New York City was a pretty awesome place for the whole family. His wife nearly bankrupted them with her Broadway addiction, and he found his passion in anesthesiology!

DR. JEFFREY N. BROWNSTEIN

Dr. Brownstein, along with his older special needs sister, grew up in a western suburb of Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Brownstein’s mother, who obtained her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Special Education, devoted her entire career to improving the quality of education for special needs children. His father obtained graduate degrees in pharmacy, dentistry and pediatrics, and is known nationally for dedicating his career to dental education. He served as Dean at both the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine and at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Dr. Brownstein’s wife, Sheri, is also a second-generation dentist and a full-time professor/administrator at the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine. Sheri & Jeff have three children and enjoy an active lifestyle, which includes hiking, boating, traveling and photography.

DR. GLADE W. COX

Dr. Glade Cox feels very fortunate to be part of Arizona Dental Anesthesia and to be able to call Arizona home. He was raised with four brothers who, along with his parents, have been amazing examples, teachers, and mentors to him. He loves spending time with them and his nieces and nephews. Dr. Cox loves anesthesia because it gives him the opportunity to help those who may otherwise not be able to receive dental and medical treatment. Dr. Cox received his dental training at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine and his anesthesia training at New York University Langone Hospital – Brooklyn which is a level 1 trauma center, designated Stroke Center, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and one of the busiest emergency departments in Brooklyn. When he is not doing anesthesia, Dr. Cox enjoys live music, biking, fitness, traveling, photography, and creating.

DR. STEVE GOETZ

Dr. Goetz grew up in a small rural town near Pittsburgh, PA. He fell in love with Arizona during his time at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine. He moved away from the Valley to pursue his dream of attending the University of Pittsburgh’s Dental Anesthesiology residency, but has always looked forward to returning to Phoenix to work alongside some of his earliest mentors in anesthesia (Drs. Brownstein, Wall, and Phan). Of the three years he spent in Pittsburgh, he is most thankful for his time training at the world-renowned Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the opportunity to treat medically complex special needs patients at the University’s Center for Patients with Special Needs. In his spare time he enjoys volunteering at his alma mater to spread his love of anesthesia, continuing his lifelong love of fitness and the outdoors, and spending time with his new roommate / rescue dog, Maverick.

DR. DONALD T. HOM

Donald Hom began providing dental care in Arizona in 2002 after graduating from USC School of Dentistry. He additionally completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency in Tucson, Arizona. Looking to further challenge himself, Donald sought to pursue his interest in providing anesthesia to the dental community. After completion of the Dental Anesthesiology Residency at Loma Linda University in 2006, he returned to Arizona to fulfill his goal of serving the Valley of the Sun. He has continued to provide general anesthesia care to pediatric and general dentists throughout the state of Arizona since that time.

DR. NATHAN NAKANO

Dr. Nakano is originally from Washington State, but now calls Arizona home. After finishing dental school at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health he served in the United States Navy, practicing all aspects of dentistry. Following his time in the Navy he moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he completed a three year dental anesthesiology residency at NYU Langone. When not working, he enjoys sports and traveling.

DR. LUKE NICHOLSON

Dr. Nicholson grew up in a small steel-mill town in Steubenville, Ohio, where he spent the first 18 years of his life. Dr. Nicholson then went on to Washington and Jefferson College where he majored in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Biologic Honor Society. During his undergraduate years, Dr. Nicholson pursued several areas of research, including cancer cell research at UCLA and pain research in spinal cord stimulation at Ohio Valley Hospital, which lead to a publication in Pain Medicine journal. After graduation, Dr. Nicholson matriculated to the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where he obtained his Doctorate of Dental Medicine. Ultimately, his passion and interests for the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive pain and anxiety led him to pursue training in dental anesthesia. He completed his three-year dental anesthesia residency at NYU Langone Hospital, which provided him with off-site rotations serving the people of Arizona. Dr. Nicholson also is passionate about serving the special needs population, in part because of experiences shared with his mother who served this population as an educator. Outside his anesthesia career, Dr. Nicholson enjoys playing basketball and relaxing with friends and family.

DR. TY SAMPSELL

Dr. Sampsell grew up in small, rural town in central Pennsylvania. He obtained his B.S. in Biology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Before attending dental school he also obtained a Master of Science in Biology and a Professional Science Masters in Chemistry from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sampsell then migrated to Arizona to attend dental school at Midwestern University, where he discovered his love for Arizona and passion for anesthesia. It was at this time where was able to apprentice with Dr. Wall, Dr. Phan, Dr. Brownstein, and Dr. Hom of AzDA. Following dental school, Dr. Sampsell spent 3 years in anesthesia residency at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. Following his anesthesia training, Dr. Sampsell moved back to Arizona to be able to work along side his mentors. In his free time, Dr. Sampsell enjoys lifting weights, golf, hunting, and spending time with his wife, Gabrielle, and their dogs, Moose and Molly.

DR. MIKE WALL

Dr. Mike Wall grew up in the Midwest, surrounded by a family deeply rooted in the medical field, with his parents, grandparents, and countless relatives all practicing as doctors or dentists. Following in their footsteps, he and his twin brother pursued careers in anesthesia after completing their professional education. Dr. Wall is fully board certified, having successfully completed both the written and oral board exams, a testament to his expertise and dedication to his field. Today, he enjoys a fulfilling life both professionally and personally. He’s been happily married for ten years to his wife, with whom he shares the joy of raising two wonderful children. Outside of his medical career, he’s passionate about staying active—biking, hiking, and traveling are just a few of his favorite hobbies. When he has time to unwind, he enjoys reading, always seeking new knowledge and inspiration. Dr. Wall’s life is a blend of dedication, family, and adventure, making him not only a skilled medical professional but also a well-rounded individual who values both his career and his personal well-being.
